- Need to import data into Google Sheets from a PDF, receipt, or scanned document? Google Sheets doesn't need a special import format the way accounting software does, any CSV or Excel file opens directly. The real work is getting from a PDF, photo, or scan to that CSV in the first place, which is what Datafromfile does.
- The actual steps
- 1. Upload your document (PDF, photo, scan, or existing spreadsheet) to Datafromfile and pick the matching tool, PDF to Excel, Receipt to Excel, Invoice to Excel, or any of the others depending on what you're extracting. 2. Review and clean up the extracted table in Datafromfile's workspace. 3. Export as XLSX or CSV. 4. In Google Sheets, go to File > Import > Upload, and select the file. Excel files (.xlsx) generally preserve formatting and multiple columns more cleanly than CSV.
- Skipping the download step
- If you're on a computer, you can also open the exported file directly with Google Sheets set as your default spreadsheet app, or drag it straight into Google Drive, where opening it converts it to a native Sheet automatically.
- Keeping numbers and dates usable after import
